LASC 254: Capstone in the Liberal Arts & Social Sciences
In-person course: Spring 2024

Assignment Description: students are given the choice of two experiences offered by Bryant Park (our “campus”): urban beekeeping with Andrew of Andrew’s Honey or urban birdwatching with environmental educator and urban naturalist Gabriel Willow. Both are experiential learning activities, and completed in a group. The assignment consists of:
- Attend/engage in one of the offered experiences
- Complete a brief 2 paragraph reflection on your experience. Your reflection should include your thoughts on the following:
- a brief description of what you did
- what drew you to this particular experience and/or why did you choose this experience? What was the most interesting or engaging aspect of the experience, and why?
- how did you feel during the experience and/or what was your reaction to what you experienced in the moment? How does this relate to your relationship or past experiences with animals? Draw on your Personal Narrative assignment to think through this question.
- how has this experience impacted or shaped your understanding or thinking about Anthrozoology and/or any course-related topic(s) we discussed or learned about in our Capstone?
- A short survey (click to complete the survey AFTER completing your nature-based learning experience)
